I know it will seem like it all flew by eventually, but right now I feel like I've been pregnant forever. The fact that I have less than 10 weeks to go goes back and forth from seeming like not nearly enough time to seeming like an eternity.
We finally got around to clearing out the room that will be the nursery. It's very sad and empty at the moment, but we got some new curtains!
Being anemic is making me tired and listless, and it is rubbing off on Timmy too. We are just kinda bored and unmotivated, which I need to get over or start appreciating because these will be the last days of truly being lazy. I get bursts of motivation (notice I didn't use the word "energy') here and there and try to use that motivation to do something good for babby.
One of those things is getting my butt back in the kitchen. I had entered a vicious cycle of eating a lot of easy food, which was affecting my energy level, then keeping me from cooking healthy. This past week, if I have a chance, I just go prepare a few things and stick them in tups, which are easy to grab for lunches or snacks. I've made sesame peanut tofu with whole grain noodles, skillet beans, black bean & tomato "salad", roasted up some zucchini and carrots and tossed them into quinoa, garlicy spinach and soy beans in cous cous, etc. I've put an emphasis on iron with the things I've made so I can fix up this darn anemia. I don't know what my "levels" currently are, but I still have the iron deficiency symptom of evil splits in the corners of my mouth which are THE BLURST! I hate them. Especially if I need to yawn or take a big bite of something. ow.
We have finished a few of our classes so far, the newborn care class and the hospital tour. The newborn care class was not what I expected, but it was informative enough. I thought it would include like baby CPR or something, but it wasn't that involved. The most helpful parts were just tidbits the teacher had to offer from her own experiences in baby care. We watched some video from 1985 that was full of photos of various types of baby poop. We are very prepared for baby poop. The best part was that we got a TON of free stuff at the end. There were gift bags with probably over 100 dollars worth of instant baby formula and pre-made formula bottles. Not to mention stacks and stacks of coupons for more, and redemption codes for getting shipped MORE free samples which I promptly redeemed. We are planning on breastfeeding and supplementing with formula so that was great to get. I'm hoarding free samples as much as possible.

We also took a tour of the maternity area of Riverside which is where I will be delivering. It seemed nice and organized enough. Tim said it felt a bit like a baby factory. Since this is my first baby, I think I am just going to kinda do what I'm told as far as birth is concerned... go with the flow and see how I feel about the experience afterwards. Maybe if I ever have another baby (oh dear) I may change up my choices about birth and be more particular about how I want everything to go down. It was just nice to see the facilities and to know where to go on the big day.
Last week I also took my second glucose test, the big 3 hour one. It was seriously no fun. The first time I took it, the drink was 50g of glucose in a tiny bottle, this time it was 100g in the same size bottle. blech. I had to get my blood taken 4 times, and my arms are all purple and blue still. When I got home, I started having cold sweats and I was shaking. Turns out, my numbers were still a little high. When they called me with the results, I cried. I was just really hoping the results would come back good, so I could relax a little. But now I have to be on a majorly strict diet, and constantly read labels. I HATE reading labels/counting amounts. It takes all the joy out of food. Since my first glucose test, I have been lessening my sugar intake, and my weight immediately dropped about 2 pounds, and then stayed the same for about 2 weeks. I've got this narrow window of foods to choose from that are low in sugar, high in iron, and vegetarian. Sigh.

Babby wiggling inside - Looks kinda graphic, but its just my belly and legs!
Sorry to hear about the glucose testing results. :-( Hope it all resolves itself. Whoa I don't think I've ever seen a baby truly kick that much! (well I haven't been around that many pregnant ladies enough to see it). Looks crazy, neat, and slightly painful. heh
ReplyDeleteSteph, it doesn't hurt (thankfully!) when baby wiggles. It does startle me sometimes though if a kick is sudden and forceful.
DeleteAnd by "startle me" she sometimes means "make me have to pee!"
DeleteI'm most entertained when the cat is trying to sleep on Lynn's bump and the baby repeatedly kicks her until she gets up. Confused kitties are adorable kitties!
Sorry if this double posts! I had a huge comment typed out that I apparently lost. Anyway, here are the highlights:
ReplyDelete- So sorry you got diagnosed with that! My friend was as well, but she followed the diet and babby was born a healthy non-huge weight and she went right back to normal after birth. Let me know what you can eat and I will cook good foods for our get together!
- Love Riverside. Hospital tour is baby factory-ish, but was super informative. I took copious notes - because I'm a nerd. Free parking is key. :) I seriously got all the info I needed about pain options from the tour. Nurses at Riverside are fantastic - I always felt like I was in great hands. Seriously the labor was the least stressful part from pregnancy to now - you are surrounded by professionals who tell you what to do! Even with the minor complications I had, I felt very confident in my care!
- I know this is totally creepy, but if you need any breast milk, I have so so much that I will probably not be able use up, even with making a donation to the milk bank! But I am sure you will be a champ with your aggressive breasts! :)
Let us know if there is anything we can help with! Can't wait to see you guys!
Jen, I'm sure whatever you want to cook will be great! Just don't expect me to eat any desserts! :( Booooooo, you make great desserts!
DeleteI'm glad you liked Riverside, that makes me feel at ease. It is really great having your input on stuff since you just went through it, I seriously appreciate all the stuff you tell me!
I will keep your hoarded breast milk in mind :)
Oh man, I was going to make a dessert using breast milk! Totally kidding, but that did happen to my friend. Coworker brought in cookies to share and they ended up being made with breast milk. Not cool.
